Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Dragon on the Couch/Andrew's Perfectly Curated Movie Corner: The Dragon and Andrew went to the theatre and watched The Card Counter (Theatres or rent), which is in Andrew's top 10 movies for the year, and which the Dragon thought was pretty good. They also watched the new Mike Flanagan series Midnight Mass (Netflix), which they both loved, even if it technically ranks under his other series Haunting of Hill House (also on Netflix).
Berto on the Bed: Berto saw the Mike Flanagan movie Ouija: Origin of Evil (HBO), which he felt was much better than it had any right to be. He also saw Hell Fest (Netflix), which is a pretty good horror movie set in an amusement park. Lastly, Berto ventured into his Shitty Amazon Prime Horror Corner and watched Quarantine 2 (Prime) and does not recommend watching.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive is the George Romero horror classic Night of the Living Dead, currently streaming basically everywhere.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon watched the 1987 James L. Brooks workplace dramedy Broadcast News (HBO) and really enjoyed it. And no, she will NOT call it a rom-com. She also ventured into the theatre to see Malignant (HBO and Theatres), a B horror movie that she liked but recognizes that it might not actually be good.
Berto on the Bed: Berto also saw Malignant and loved that, for him, it became a comedy after the twist. He also saw the man's man movie Copshop (Theatres), and liked it for what it is, a dumb cop action movie. Lastly, Berto saw Daredevil (Prime) and Elektra (Prime), both of which he felt were pretentious attempts at super hero movies before anyone figured out the formula.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive is the 1998 Michael Bay action movie Armageddon, currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon kept the John Carpenter theme going and watched Escape from New York (HBO), The Thing (Starz), and Christine (Starz) and loved all three. The Thing is one of the best movies period. Escape from New York made her want to be Snake Pliskin when she grows up, and Christine made her remember that a King adaptation in the right hands can be pretty good.
Berto on the Bed: Berto and the Dragon saw Candyman (theatres), both overall enjoyed the film, but felt there were parts that lost them, especially in the third act. Berto went to the movies again and saw Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Theatres) and also really liked it, especially the action sequences in the beginning of the movie. His only gripe was the very end. Finally, Berto also watched The Old Ways (Netflix), which he thought was a solid horror movie.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive was the 2019 horror comedy Little Monsters, currently streaming on Hulu.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon rewatched The Devil Wears Prada (Starz) and still really liked it and wants to note that Meryl Streep is a national treasure. She also spent some time in the the-a-tre this week and saw Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Theatres). She felt it was a really solid Marvel movie with good fight scenes and fun leads.

Episode 54 - Assault on Precinct 13

Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon watched Fletch (Starz), an 80s Chevy Chase movie that was good, though he is not her favorite person. She also watched The Man Who Knew Too Little (Pluto), a 90s Bill Murray movie that she thought was just ok, though acknowledges Murray is always good.
Berto on the Bed: Berto watched Case 39 (Netflix), a supernatural horror movie starring Renée Zellweger, and The Spirit (HBO), a Frank Miller noir superhero movie, both of which he did not care for. Berto also saw Ghost Team One (Prime), which is a comedy horror movie that will definitely get him cancelled, but also happens to be the only movie on this list he enjoyed.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive is the 1976 John Carpenter classic Assault on Precinct 13, currently streaming on HBO.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon stayed on the couch this week and watched Basic Instinct (HBO), the 1992 Paul Verhoeven thriller that she absolutely loved. Highly recommends. She also watched the 2021 Nic Cage mystery drama Pig (rent), which she was loved and recommends. Podcasts also mentioned by the Dragon were Blank Check with Griffin & David and With Gourley and Rust.
Berto on the Bed: Berto switched to Hulu for his horror this week and watched the anthology Ghost Stories (Hulu), which he thought was "not a waste of time." Berto also saw Aftermath (Netflix), a haunted house movie he felt had terrible editing and camera work, but an ok premise. Finally, we visit Berto's History Corner with the documentary Cuba and the Cameraman (Netflix), which looks at Cuba over 45 years and that he loved.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive is the 1992 Chuck Norris kid's karate movie Sidekicks, currently streaming on Prime.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon watched multiple Kathryn Bigelow movies to catch up on the podcast Blank Check, including Near Dark (AMC, Shudder), a vampire western she really liked, and Blue Steel (Tubi), a cop thriller that she also liked. The Dragon also highly recommends the documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (HBO), about the failure of the 3-day music festival.
Berto on the Bed: Berto and his chick watched the 2016 Suicide Squad (HBO), and can both confirm it is just as bad as everyone says. Berto also watched Silence (Hulu), a 2016 two and a half hour Martin Scorsese film no one remembers and thought it was good but boring. Finally, Berto caught Jurassic Park (HBO) and, as always, agrees that it is a masterpiece.
Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive is the 2018 Coen Brothers film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, currently streaming on Netflix.

Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon saw Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (Theaters), which is a documentary on the life and death of the famous chef, which she really enjoyed. The Dragon also went to her morbid corner after many weeks off and watched the docuseries Ted Bundy: Falling for a Kill (Prime), which she liked because it was told from the perspective of the women affected by Ted Bundy.
